Power for the places the grid forgot.
Unity Renewables is a Rochester, NY team engineering resilient power at every scale: commercial and community systems that pair solar, storage, and standby generation to tame demand charges and keep critical operations running through extended outages, and THE POWERBOX 10K, the same technology made portable.
Generators are loud, dirty, and expensive to keep running.
Food truck owners, contractors, and event crews have relied on gas generators for decades because nothing else was sized for real work. Consumer power stations can charge a laptop; they can't run a warmer, a compressor, and a POS at once.
We started with one question: what would it take to replace a generator for a full shift — not just supplement one?
THE POWERBOX 10K — built by hand, tested in the field.
A 10,000Wh LiFePO4 system in a powder-coated steel enclosure that can take a beating on a job site or a food truck bumper — assembled and load-tested by us before it leaves the shop.
Early units are working today at Rob's Kabobs in Rochester, Baja Cali Taco Co. in Syracuse, and Uhlman's Ice Cream in Massachusetts. Each one has shaped the design based on what actually breaks or annoys people in daily use.
Community energy storage at Open Door Mission.
Unity Renewables partners with community organizations to provide tailored energy storage systems that enhance energy resilience and sustainability. Whether supporting shelters, food programs, or other critical facilities, we help organizations rely on clean, reliable, and cost-effective power to carry out their missions.
Projects like the Open Door Mission Energy Storage for Social Equity Initiative in Rochester, NY demonstrate our commitment to empowering communities. By installing a solar-plus-storage system, we'll help enhance the Mission's ability to provide critical services during outages while reducing costs and environmental impact.
The Mission provides meals, emergency shelter, a warming shelter, and affordable housing, and served 99,266 meals in 2022 alone. These services have to keep running through power outages and severe weather. The project's 21 kW of rooftop solar and 600 kWh of battery storage, coupled with a standby generator, create resiliency for the Mission in the event of an extended outage.
The system also creates an opportunity to reduce the Mission's demand charges, performing peak shaving when needed.
The project was selected through the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Storage for Social Equity (ES4SE) initiative and developed in partnership with Joule Community Power, Unity Renewables, and Open Door Mission.
